Is Seneca Lake at risk of losing battle with Texas-based gas conglomerate?

Over 100 local businesses and thousands of individuals in the Finger Lakes Region near Seneca Lake have come forward in opposition to the storage of natural gas in the vacant salt caverns beneath the giant body of water in what is now the third week of protests. The Texas-based energy corporation, Crestwood Midstream, is moving forward with plans to store highly pressurized, explosive gas on the west shore of Seneca Lake, despite documented instability of the salt caverns and concern over impacts to water quality and public safety. Construction was slated to begin October 24th.
